A SOLO'S DEV JOURNEY

Development, Pixel Art, Music & Sound design by Toadzilla

As a child of the 90s, my foundational experiences with games like Pokemon instilled a lifelong love for creature collection and pixel art visuals. Growing up, time became a scarce resource, not just for playing games but also for creating them. Earlier this ear, the format of MrMorris’s « Rusty’s Retirement » was a major inspiration due to its minimalist design, which perfectly aligned with my evolving needs as a gamer and a developer. This game concept was designed to fit seamlessly into daily life without demanding excessive time or mental energy.

My journey into game development started with participating in small game jams, which sparked my desire to create something uniquely stress-free. The aim was to develop a game with a manageable scope that would offer an escape from the daily grind of work. Kimera was envisioned as a tranquil, pressure-free game, not adding to the mental load but rather accompanying players through their everyday tasks with ease.

Over the years, I’ve honed my skills in pixel art and game development, drawing inspiration from standout solo projects like Stardew Valley by ConcernedApe. His exceptional journey influenced my own path significantly. For Kimera, I’ve expanded my skill set to include music composition and sound design to enrich the gaming experience, ensuring that every aspect of the game resonates with the calm and inviting atmosphere I set out to create.
